Get your Cavities Treated with Our Brilliant Natural-looking Teeth Fillings

A few too many sweet treats, among other conditions, can lead to cavities – but the good news is that tooth fillings are an easy and effective option for restoring them and bringing your damaged teeth back to life. Fillings do just that – fill – the gaps in lost tooth structure caused by decay and wear, returning them back to their original function and shape. Fillings are essential not only for aesthetic and functional purposes but also for health reasons, as cavities left unfilled create spaces for bacteria to enter and grow, potentially infecting the area or accelerating tooth decay.

Only your dentist can detect whether you have a cavity that needs to be filled. During a check-up, your dentist will use a small mirror to examine the surfaces of each tooth and possibly do X-rays to check whether you will need teeth fillings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Once your dentist has assessed your teeth and found a cavity that needs filling, they will first remove the decayed tooth material, clean the affected area, and then fill the cleaned out cavity with a filling material. Teeth fillings performed at Dentists of Plenty Valley are placed directly into cavities for an efficient and time saving treatment option.

Amalgam fillings are made of a mixture of metals including silver, copper, tin, mercury and zinc, making them a very strong filling material and more of a traditional option. However, at Dentists of Plenty Valley, we instead use composite resin fillings. Also known as white fillings, as they can be colour-matched to the shade of your natural teeth and are today’s industry standard for fillings. Composite teeth fillings are made of an insoluble material that is insensitive to dehydration, making them able to withstand pressures from chewing and eating. They are extremely natural-looking fillings that blend in seamlessly with the rest of the tooth, thanks to the bonding or ‘glueing’ effect used to attach them to the tooth structure.

The name of the game is early detection. We encourage you to attend six-monthly checkups with your dentist at Dentists of Plenty Valley so that we can carefully monitor any changing conditions your teeth may be experiencing and pick up on any issues early before they grow to be more difficult, painful, and/or expensive to treat.

By diagnosing tooth decay at its earliest stages, we strive to do the least invasive filling wherever possible. If decay or a fracture has damaged a large portion of the tooth, inlays and onlays or a crown may be recommended instead. Decay that has reached the nerve may need root canal therapy in which the damaged nerve is removed.
